Classes

In this two-part class you’ll make 1 large raku witch, glaze it, and fire it in the raku kiln! No experience necessary.

Day 1 - September 11 - 3:30PM: You’ll build and decorate your witch using slab-building techniques. You’ll be guided through all steps of the process, from decorating your slab, cutting out the parts for your witch, and assembly.

Day 2 - September 20 - 11AM: Your witch will have been dried and fired once and will be ready for you to glaze. You’ll choose your glazes, glaze your piece, and then participate in the raku firing! Raku is an exciting and unpredictable firing process that involves heating your work quickly to about 1850 degrees then removing them from the kiln while glowing red and placing them into paper-lined trash cans, where they burst into flames. The cans are then covered for a few minutes before your witches are taken out - still hot - and plunged into water. The process results in unpredictable color variations with splashes of metallics from where the flames and ashes have reacted with the glaze, spontaneous crazing, and other dramatic effects. Once fired, you’ll clean your witches and take them home!

This class includes instruction and all materials needed to make your witch.

Class is limited to 10 participants. The exact time that we fire on September 20 may be negotiated based on participant availability and may be rescheduled in the event of poor weather.

Please note & plan accordingly: There is not a bathroom in the pottery studio (it’s a barn!) but there is one at the gas station down the road if necessary. The barn is not fully accessible due to a 2-3 inch high threshold, but is otherwise easily navigated by those with mobility impairments once they are inside.

September 18, 2026 - 3:30pm - 5:30PM

In this one-day hand building class, you’ll make and design your own charcuterie board or platter. At the end of the day, you’ll choose your glaze(s) for the final product and leave your platter to dry. I will bisque fire, glaze your plater with your chosen glaze, and fire your piece. You’ll be able to pickup the final product 2-3 weeks after the class. No experience necessary!

This class includes instruction and all materials needed to make one large size platter or charcuterie board. If you wish, you may make additional pieces at an additional cost.
